 PROGRAM JOBS

 

Broseley Senior Center-Assist with activities taking place at the center.  Duties vary according to schedule set by the center director.

 

Cedargate-Assist with activities taking place at the nursing home.  Duties vary according to the schedule set by the activity director, and participate with one-on-one contact with residents.

 

Neelyville Nutrition Center-Assist with activities taking place at the senior center.  Duties vary according to the schedule set by the center director.

 

Northside Nutrition-Assist with activities taking place at the center.  Duties vary according to the schedule set by the center director.

 

Qulin Senior Center-Assist with activities taking place at the senior center.  Duties vary according to the schedule set by the center director.

 

Twin Towers Activities-Assist in craft room, library, bingo, etcetera.  Duties vary according to schedule set by the center director.

.

Westwood Hills Health Center-Assist with activities taking place at the nursing home.  Duties vary according to the schedule set by the activities director.

 

Altrusa RSVP Community Service-Work on special projects for Altrusa International of Poplar Bluff.  This can include Reading Is Fundamental and the Smorgasborg as well as other short term projects.

 

American Cancer Society-Help prepare the annual Walk For The Cure.  Duties might include such things as recruiting other volunteers, publicizing the event, asking for donations of food or other items, helping in the hospitality room, registering entrants, and receiving money.

 

 American Legion-Volunteers work with special projects sponsored by the American Legion.

 

 AMVETS-Volunteers help with various special  projects at the Amvets Hall on an as needed basis.  The most common duties include preparing and/or serving meals and working the fundraising bingo.

 

United Gospel Rescue Mission Auxiliary-Assist with programs at the Mission.  This includes serving meals, assisting with services, planning and executing special projects.

 

Back To School Fair-Volunteers help to sort donations to the back to school fair and to give supplies to students.  Also assist at special booths offering such services as health checks.

 

Community Development Bingo-Volunteers assist with all aspects of running the bingo game at the Black River Coliseum on Sundays.  This includes selling bingo cards, selling pull tabs, calling bingo, assisting I the kitchen, setup and cleanup.

 

Mark Twain Care Center Bingo-Volunteers go to the nursing home one afternoon per week to assist residents with playing bingo.  Volunteer responsibilities include distributing bingo supplies, calling bingo, helping the hard of hearing keep the correct spaces covered, covering spaces for those not able to do so, bringing prizes to players as they win, and putting away supplies.

 

VA Medical Center Bingo-Volunteers call bingo and/or assist patients who are unable to play alone due to physical limitations.

 

Westwood Hills Health Center Bingo-Volunteers to to the nursing home one afternoon per week to assist residents with playing bingo.  Volunteer responsibilities include distributing bingo supplies, calling bingo, helping the hard of hearing keep the correct spaces covered, covering spaces for those not able to do so, bringing prizes to players as they win, and putting away supplies.

 

Blind Club-Assist blind members of the community with basic living needs, providc transporation, help with household needs etcetera on an as needed basis.

 

American Red Cross Blood Bank-Volunteers assist with blood drives in Butler County.  Responsibilities include scheduling volunteers, registering donors, general customer service with donors and potential donors, and working in the canteen.

 

AARP Board Member-Serve as an officer in AARP.  Take a leadership role in all facets of the organization’s activities.

 

City of Poplar Bluff Board Member-Attend board meetings for assigned city entity.  Work with city staff on projects as needed.

 

Community Betterment Board Member-Attend Community Betterment Board meetings.  Work on special projects such as local planting and Buff up the Bluff as needed.

 

Community Development Board Member-Attend board meetings for the Community Development Corporation.  Work with the Community Development staff on special projects such as Black River Festival, Rodeo, Winter Wonderland and other projects as needed.

 

Butler County RSVP Community Service Board Member-Attend board meetings for assigned county entity.  Work with staff members on projects as needed.

 

RSVP Community Service Board Member MISC-Serve on any board of a nonprofit organization not otherwise listed.

 

United Gospel Rescue Mission Board Member-Board members oversee the operation of the Rescue Mission.

 

Poplar Bluff Museum Board Member-Attend board meetings.  Work on museum projects as needed.

 

RSVP Community Service Planning Board Member-Planning Commission board members oversee the operation of the commission.

 

Qulin Senior Center Board Member-Attend board meetings.  Work with senior center staff on projects as needed.

 

City of Poplar Bluff Buff Up The Bluff-Work on the special Buff Up The Bluff project that occurs twice each year.  Responsibilities could include answering phones to schedule pickup for handicap and elderly, supervising groups of volunteers, assisting with food, and cleaning and assigned area.

 

UCAN-Volunteers work in the UCAN office.  Responsibilities include counseling with cancer patients and their families, distributing cancer information, and assisting cancer patients with special needs such as wigs.

 

RSVP Chorus-Volunteers rehearse one day per week and perform in area nursing homes one day per week.  Other performances are occasionally scheduled.

 

Broseley Senior Center Chorus-Volunteers rehearse one day per week and sing locally on an as requested basis.

 

AARP Chapter 2715 Claim-Helps senior citizens with their medical insurance forms.

 

Poplar Bluff Public School Classroom Aide-Work in classrooms in elementary schools.  Duties include such things as tutoring individual students and listening to students read.

 

 

City Of Poplar Bluff Clerical-Help with such tasks such as stuffing envelopes for property tax bills.

 

ST. Vincent De Paul Clerk-Process paperwork regarding requests for assistance, pack food baskets, help clients take commodities to their cars.

 

Child Concern Center Clerk-Evaluate donations received, stock shelves, assist customers, complete paperwork, make sales.

 

United Gospel Rescue Mission Clerk-Evaluate donations received, complete and file paperwork, stock shelves, assist customers, make sales.

 

City Of Poplar Bluff Coliseum-Ticket taker to take tickets at the door and/or Usher people to seats, restrooms, and/or concessions etcetera.

 

RSVP Community Improvement-This is a catch all category for volunteers who are working on special projects in the community.

 

RSVP Community Service Council Member-Attend RSVP advisory council meetings.  Be assigned to at least one committee and work with the director as needed.

 

University Of Missouri County Fair-Work an information booth for RSVP at the fair.  Assist Fair Board with planning and implementation of Fair.

 

Haven House Crisis Intervention-Evaluate crisis situations of homeless women and refer them to community agencies as appropriate.

 

Margaret Harwell  Art Museum Docent-Act as hostess and tour guide.  Staff the gift shop.  Assist with exhibit setup as needed.

 

Poplar Bluff Museum Docent-Serve as tour guide and source of information when museum is open.  Assist with exhibit setup and maintenance.

 

Area Agency On Aging Eve-Elderly visiting and helping elderly.
